Position Summary
The Lead Billing Technician, under the direction of the Director of Billing Operations, is responsible for oversight and production of medical billing.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
• Medical Billing
o Maintain electronic and physical client billing files
Maintenance of Service Authorizations
Managing Client Accounts
o Preparation and Submission of Electronic Billing of Professional Services to all sources
Processing Claims
o Identifying and Preparing Accounts for Collection / Annual write offs
o Ensuring accurate monthly closing
Compiling Monthly Numbers for GL Entry
o Ensuring timely posting of charges/payments
Processing Payments
o Ensuring proper payments/adjustments of self-pay billing
o Ensuring quarterly mailing of client invoices/statements
o Reporting any billing discrepancies to Director of Billing Operations
• Maintain contact with Program Clinical staff to ensure proper documentation is received
• Involvement in Representing Department Communications with Regards to Staff and Clients
• Maintain contact with State Fiscal organization to ensure timely billing/processing
• Maintain and update written desk procedures and instructions
• Assist in annual audit organization audit preparation
• Participate in appropriate meetings
• Perform other duties as assigned
Essential Skills-Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education & Experience:
• Must have the ability to learn new software programs
• Must be detail oriented.
• Ability to follow directions through to completion, from written desk procedures and verbal instructions
• Must be able to ask questions for clarification of processes.
• Must possess computer skills to perform specific duties and essential functions listed above; including, but not limited to medical billing; TIER, Lytec and fund accounting software AccuFund
• Acceptable written and verbal communication skills and be able to use those skills in effective communication with other employees, clients and vendors.
• Ability to multi-task and handle interruptions in an efficient manner.
• Self-motivated, strong organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
• Willingness to take on full responsibility of job duties listed above.
• Ability to work as a team member of the Finance Department.
• Work closely with Medical Billing Technician staff.
• Ability to deliver consistent Billing Dept. updates to Director of Billing Operations.
• Ability to adhere to established work schedule.
• Must present valid AK Driver’s License and Clean Driving Record
• Must be willing to use personal vehicle for department runs. Mileage Reimbursed
• Must be willing to pass pre-employment test
• Ability to physically tolerate sedentary job, and work with computers and other equipment for several hours per day.
Education And Work Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 1 Year Medical Billing Experience Required
• Must be PC literate to include keyboarding and 10-key by touch, MS Word, MS Excel, Internet research
• Operational knowledge of office equipment copiers, scanners, fax machines, postage machine, etc.
• Must have a personal vehicle and valid Alaska Driver’s License and Auto Insurance coverage.
