Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP) and Juvenile Alcohol Safety Action Program (JASAP)
Akeela provides services through the Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP) and the Juvenile Alcohol Safety Action Program (JASAP). These programs serve adults and juveniles referred following driving offenses involving alcohol or other substances.
Participants are typically referred after a DUI or similar offense. The process begins with a screening appointment to determine the most appropriate next steps. Based on the screening results, individuals may be referred to an alcohol or drug education course or scheduled for a behavioral health assessment if treatment services may be recommended.
The goal of ASAP and JASAP is to support public safety while helping individuals address substance use concerns and reduce the risk of future offenses. Akeela staff monitor participation and communicate with courts and referral partners to ensure program requirements and recommendations are completed.
Program coordination and monitoring are managed through Akeela’s Kenai office, which serves communities across the Kenai Peninsula including Kenai and Homer. In some cases, the program also monitors participants from other Alaska communities, including Ketchikan, depending on court arrangements.
Participation begins with a screening appointment scheduled Monday through Friday. During this appointment, staff explain the program requirements, next steps, and available support services. Some individuals complete an education program focused on decision making and the effects of alcohol and drugs. Others may require a behavioral health assessment and follow up treatment services.
Many participants are referred through the criminal justice system, though some individuals contact the program directly for information or to begin the process. Our team works with clients respectfully and professionally while helping them complete the program successfully.
The ASAP and JASAP programs serve as an important link between the justice system and behavioral health services, helping people move forward while meeting court or DMV requirements.
