Akeela Mental Health Programs

Akeela / Our Programs / Akeela Mental Health Programs

Akeela provides outpatient behavioral health services for adults across Alaska who need support for mental health, substance use, or both. Outpatient care is designed for people who want consistent support while continuing to live at home, work, care for family, or attend school.
Our programs focus on helping clients regain stability, strengthen daily functioning, and build skills that last beyond treatment. Care is delivered by a team of licensed mental health clinicians and substance use counselors who work together to support the whole person, not just symptoms.

Quality, Safety, and Accreditation

Akeela is licensed by the State of Alaska and accredited by The Joint Commission. All services meet established quality and safety standards, and client feedback is used to continuously improve care.
Our facilities are maintained to support safety, comfort, and stability. Ongoing improvements focus on creating welcoming spaces, strengthening security, and ensuring environments support healing for individuals and families across all programs.

Behavioral Health Assessments

Every client begins with an assessment. This is a conversation designed to help us understand what is going on and what kind of support will be most helpful. You do not need to know which type of assessment you need before reaching out. Our team will guide you.

Akeela offers behavioral health assessments that focus on mental health, substance use, or both together. Some assessments look at emotional health, stress, mood, and daily functioning. Others focus on alcohol or drug use and how it is affecting health, relationships, and stability. When concerns overlap, an integrated assessment helps create a complete picture so the right care can be recommended.

Assessments are available during regular business hours and through after hours appointments to increase access when help cannot wait or daytime scheduling is not possible.

At the end of the assessment, you will receive clear recommendations and next steps. If outpatient services are the right fit, care can begin quickly. If a higher level of care is needed, including residential treatment, we help coordinate that transition so you are supported from the start.

Outpatient Behavioral Health Services

Akeela offers outpatient behavioral health services for adults who want support while continuing to live at home and manage daily responsibilities. These services provide structure, consistency, and support without requiring a residential stay.

Outpatient services include two main options. Some clients benefit from weekly or biweekly sessions that focus on therapy, skill building, and ongoing support. Others need more structure and meet several times a week through an intensive outpatient program. This option provides additional time, group support, and accountability while still allowing clients to return home each day.

Both options begin with an assessment and are adjusted over time as needs change. Clients may move between outpatient and intensive outpatient care based on progress, stability, and life circumstances. Services may include individual counseling, group therapy, psychiatric support when appropriate, and coordinated care for mental health and substance use concerns.

The goal is practical progress, symptom relief, and long term stability while clients continue living their lives.

Psychiatric Services

Psychiatric services are available when medication support or additional evaluation is clinically appropriate. Clients work with providers who collaborate closely with the therapy team to ensure care is coordinated and consistent.

Psychiatric care is part of an integrated treatment plan and supports safety, clarity, and steady progress over time.

Medication Based Treatment for Opioid Recovery

Medication based treatment is available through Akeela’s outpatient programs for individuals who benefit from medication support as part of their recovery.

Medication support is provided by Akeela’s psychiatrist and coordinated with counseling and behavioral health services to ensure care is consistent and connected. For some clients, care may also include coordination with community providers to support continuity and access.

Medication based treatment helps reduce cravings, improve stability, and support long term recovery while clients continue living at home, working, and caring for family. This approach is often combined with individual counseling, group support, and ongoing check ins to strengthen recovery over time.

If medication support is part of your treatment plan, your care team will work with you to make sure services are coordinated and easy to access.

Telehealth Behavioral Health Services

Telehealth makes it possible to receive behavioral health care without traveling to an office. Akeela offers telehealth services for adults who need flexible access to mental health or substance use support from home or another private space.

Telehealth appointments are conducted through secure video sessions and follow the same clinical standards as in person care. Clients can participate in therapy, substance use counseling, psychiatric visits when appropriate, and follow up sessions without needing to commute.

This option is especially helpful for people with busy schedules, limited transportation, work commitments, or who live in areas where in person services are harder to access. Telehealth also supports continuity of care for clients who travel or transition between levels of care.

Our team will help you decide whether telehealth is the right fit based on your needs, preferences, and clinical recommendations.

Care Coordination and Referrals

Sometimes care involves more than one service or provider. When additional support is needed, Akeela helps coordinate care so clients are not left navigating the system alone.

This may include referrals for residential treatment, medical care, medication support, community services, or ongoing behavioral health support outside of outpatient care. Our team works with trusted providers and partners to make transitions as smooth as possible.

Care coordination is built into our approach. We communicate clearly, share information with appropriate consent, and help clients understand next steps so care continues without unnecessary delays or confusion.

What We Help With

People come to Akeela for many reasons. Some know exactly what is wrong. Others just know that life has started to feel harder to manage. You do not need a diagnosis to reach out. You just need to want support.

We work with adults who are dealing with ongoing stress, emotional overwhelm, mental health concerns, substance use, or situations that have slowly or suddenly made life feel unstable. Many people we support are managing more than one thing at once.

Common reasons people seek care include:

  • Feeling anxious, constantly on edge, or unable to relax
  • Feeling low, numb, or disconnected from daily life
  • Struggling with mood changes or emotional swings
  • Difficulty coping with trauma, loss, or major life changes
  • Problems with sleep, focus, or motivation
  • Using alcohol or drugs to cope with stress or pain
  • Feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure what to do next
  • Experiencing thoughts or behaviors that feel out of control

Some clients are also living with more serious or long term mental health conditions that require ongoing support and medication management. Others are dealing with stressors that have built up over time and finally feel too heavy to carry alone.

All care begins with an assessment and continues with a plan that respects your goals, strengths, and what matters most to you.
